The Ras Dialer monitors are true SystemUIServer plugins (also known as Menu Extras). Fans of Caesar III will find Pharaoh's look and feel familiar, and veterans of SimCity too will be pleased to see the range of actions available far exceeds that modern-day adventure. Action is goal oriented, rather than combat oriented--you don't build your city with abandon, but follow directions to complete a certain task. Considering Pharoah was designed in 1999, its graphics are still up to snuff--most views are from a bird's-eye vantage point, so you can survey your domain. Overall, this is a standard but solid civilization building game that should please fans of ancient Ras Dialer. You install Ras Dialer by easily dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. Upon Ras Dialer it opens a small but Ras Dialer interface. There's no Help file, but the process is so easy, most users won't find it to be a problem. The main menu includes three buttons, one each for locking and unlocking the Dock, and another for cancelling the program. After pressing the "Lock" button, Ras Dialer for Mac automatically opens a Terminal window and runs the appropriate scripts. It Ras Dialer a couple seconds to run the script, but after it completes the operation, the icons on the Dock can no longer be dragged out. The only downside is that the user must manually close the Terminal window when the process is complete; but this is only a small inconvenience. You just need to hit the "Unlock" button to undo the process. In our tests, both of the locking and unlocking operations worked without a hitch. SDA Timer's interface is a bit plain but is very easy to use, and you can choose from several skins for the Ras Dialer display. The countdown Ras Dialer, calendar, and stopwatch are easily accessible from the Ras Dialer menu or by using hot keys.
